Visit Valdosta

About the Project

  • Visit Valdosta, the tourism body representing Valdosta, Georgia, frequently updates its website with information on attractions, historical sites, and upcoming events. They were looking to extend this outreach by launching a monthly newsletter to highlight these features.

  • Designer: Isabel Arnold

    Art Director: Andy Gosendi

I worked on this project as a component of my graphic design internship with Dalton. To learn more about my experience, click here.

  • Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator

The objective of this project was to develop the first monthly newsletter for Visit Valdosta. This initial edition was intended to serve as a template, with subsequent editions featuring updated copy and photos each month. The look and feel of the Visit Valdosta website needed to be applied, including the logo, colors, and general stylistic elements (shown left and below)

Rough Sketch

To begin, I built a template that was based on the Visit Valdosta website, using design elements like an alternating light gray and white background, images stretching about 80% across the page, and overlapping gradient text. I created a block with one of the Visit Valdosta logos and social media links as a header and footer.

First Draft

When incorporating photos and copy text into the newsletter I chose photos that had a spring-y, upbeat feel, and that coordinated with the color palette without directly matching. I added in the script font, turbinado, to specific headings to draw the eye in, emphasizing specific words. However, I kept this minimal so as not to detract from readability.

Second Draft

Based on art director feedback, I made several small changes, shown right:

  • I moved up “Valdosta” in the first heading for clarity

  • I took in the tracking on the headlines to feel more crafted

  • I added emphasis to the dates for easier reference

  • I added a call-to-action with that links out to the landing page

After a few more small revisions, the final version was ready. View below.
